Peanut Feeders

Peanut Feeders

Peanuts provide a lot of nutrition and fat for the birds that is particularly important in cold weather. Shelled peanuts are placed in metal tube feeders with holes so that the birds can chip out the feed. All the woodpeckers cling to the sides and use their tail as a brace to hold them up. Tufted titmice also love the shelled peanuts. We had a small window feeder and filled it with shelled peanuts. The titmice carried off 2/3 of all the peanuts in less than an hour! Be sure to use unsalted peanuts. Hang these feeders on limbs, shepherd hooks or deck hangers 10 feet or so from your birdbath. But, watch out for the squirrels!
